The second revision of the UN Model Rules on permanent identification of railway rolling stock Revision 2, issued last November by the Working Party on Rail Transport of the UN ECE Inland Transport Committee, were formally approved by the Supervisory Authority at its annual meeting in Berne on 23rd April 2025. As a result, parties registering international interests at the International Registry now need to comply with this latest revision.

Revision 2 essentially creates more latitude for debtors and creditors to apply a transition period of up to 3 years for the permanent marking of the rolling stock with the URVIS number in respect of used equipment where there is already a running number.
