Professor Sir Royston Goode KC

We are sad to announce the passing yesterday, at the age of 93, of Professor Sir Royston Goode KC, Emeritus Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Oxford and at Queen Mary University of London.

Roy played a key role in the development of the Cape Town Convention and its various protocols, acting as rapporteur at each of the diplomatic conferences and as the author of the Official Commentaries for each Protocol. Apart from being one of the leading academic lawyers of his generation, he was very much the “father” of the Cape Town Convention, keenly involved in all the various aspects of implementation and we were privileged to work closely with him for many years.

We send our deepest condolences to his wife Catherine and daughter Naomi. May his memory be a blessing for us all.
