An interest group representing the railway industry

The Rail Working Group (RWG) is a not-for-profit group established at the request of UNIDROIT to represent the position of the rail industry relating to adoption and implementation of a protocol for the rail industry to the 2001 Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment.

The RWG had observer status at the Cape Town Diplomatic Conference adopting the Convention in October and November 2001, and was actively involved in the framing of the Convention. It also had observer status at the Luxembourg Diplomatic Conference of February 2007 which adopted the Luxembourg Rail Protocol to the Convention and will be a member of the Preparatory Commission established by the Luxembourg Diplomatic Conference.

Before the adoption of the Luxembourg Rail Protocol, the RWG was actively involved in commenting on, and drafting in relation to, the Protocol ensuring that the text did not lose touch with the commercial realities of the rail industry. We will be actively working with individual governments, industry bodies and the two sponsoring organisations, OTIF and UNIDROIT, in the implementation of the Luxembourg Protocol. We also participate in seminars , and also issue publications discussing the Protocol.
